Friendship: a syllabus

Friendship: a syllabus

Friendship: a syllabus (aka some of my favorite books about friendship)

This week, I want to share a syllabus that I created as a collaboration with one of my fave bookstores, Bluestockings.

Bluestockings is a worker owned cooperative, queer intersectional feminist bookstore & community space. Along with books, Bluestockings runs a free store, an Opiate Overdose Prevention Program, a public restroom, & community workshops + events.

I really love their work & always make sure to stop by to buy some books & to attend an event or two when I'm in NYC, so I was super excited when they reached out to me about curating a reading list on a subject + theme of my choice πŸ’•

Without further ado, here's Friendship: A Syllabus!

Friendship: a syllabus

01: Boundaries & Protection by Pixie Lighthorse

A short + impactful collection of accessible & actionable prompts on starting conversations about & setting boundaries, especially for those of us who are recovering people-pleasers.

Read it for: Tangible strategies for improving your boundaries & friendships, one conversation at a time.

02: You Will Find Your People by Lane Moore

A beautiful, vulnerable, & supportive primer on making & sustaining meaningful friendships as an adult.

Read it for: Moore’s work is a lighthouse for those of us who have struggled with friendships, gently affirming our experiences while reminding us hope is not lost.

03: Friendship in the Age of Loneliness by Adam Smiley Poswolsky

An expansive & inspiring collection of creative ideas, generative experiments, & vulnerable notes on creating & sustaining friendships.

Read it for: Tangible & practical ideas on how to create more connection in your life, especially when you’re feeling lonely.

04: How We Show Up by Mia Birdsong

A generous & generative collection on showing up for one another, outside of the constraints of the heteronormative family. Birdsong’s work reminds us that, as Audre Lorde wrote, β€œwithout community there is no liberation.”

Read it for: Experiments, inspiration, & ideas on queering your relationships, supporting one another, & co-creating community.

& I have a coupon code for you! Use code FEMSUPREME for 25% off your order from Bluestockings. Support an indie queer, trans, & sex-worker owned cooperative bookstore & get some rad books (or tarot decks!) for 25% off? Win win.

PS: Coupon is one per customer & doesn’t expire πŸ₯°
