Outreach and Instruction Librarian, Assistant Archivist (Diversity Fellow) August 2018 - August 2020
Cornell University Library
Taught workshops and instruction sessions in both Mann Library’s Makerspace and classrooms with a focus on feminist pedagogy.
Founded, planned, and facilitated the Women, Trans, Femme, and Non-binary Makers Night, a project introducing marginalized students to the Makerspace to build their maker skills through bi-weekly projects led in conjunction with cross-campus departmental collaborations and student organization involvement.
Strengthened Cornell University Library’s commitment diversity, inclusion, and belonging (DIB) through participation on the library’s DIB Council.
Co-founded, co-led, and planned the Equity and Empowerment Reading Group, a social justice reading group for librarians and library workers, to contribute to a creating a more diverse and inclusive workplace and work together with colleagues to better understand how librarians are impacted by structural inequities.
Cataloged visual resources for the Human Sexuality Collection, such as those of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF), to improve description and access for researchers.
Developed policy and procedures for describing digital collections in alignment with Cornell University Library’s diversity, inclusion, and belonging vision.
Co-authored a 40-page report as part of Rare and Manuscript Collections’ Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Task Force on best recommendations and practices for special collections.
Created a social media strategy and plan that increased the Human Sexuality Collection’s Instagram following from 500 to 3,500+ followers.
Arranged physical and digital collections in a manner that will facilitate research access and long-term preservation of the records, utilizing knowledge of the collection obtained through research and archival methodology. Performs extensive background research needed to understand the context of the archival collection.
Prepared detailed finding aids for use by scholars, using current technology and descriptive standards and techniques, including Encoded Archival Description (EAD). Prepares scope and content notes, bibliographical and historical summaries, content listings, and indexes.
Responded to in-person, e-mail, telephone, and mail reference inquiries, using broad and general knowledge of collections. Searches local and national databases for information pertaining to materials which may be complex due to language, format, subject, or publication pattern
Fostered classroom and research use by Cornell faculty and students and others through tours, instruction sessions, and public presentations in consultation with subject experts.
